In de eerste jaren na de oorlog was er weinig aandacht voor het lot van de Joodse eilandbewoners. In 1957 liet de Joodse Jacques Hartogs op de Joodse begraafplaats te Middelharnis een \u2013 door nabestaanden grotendeels zelf gefinancierd \u2013 monument plaatsen. In de 21<sup>e<\/sup> eeuw werden de Joodse begraafplaatsen in Goedereede en Dirksland opgeknapt en van een informatiebord voorzien. Op initiatief van dhr. De Man uit Dirksland realiseerde het Paul van Hessenfonds de zgn. <em>Stolpersteine<\/em> (struikelstenen) voor alle Joodse slachtoffers op Goeree-Overflakkee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ondanks protest kon de voormalige synagoge \u2013 ook wel <em>sjoel<\/em> genoemd &#8211; niet gered worden van de sloophamer. Wat nog herinnert is een plaquette aan de gevel van een winkel op het Zandpad waar voorheen de synagoge stond. De trap ter hoogte van de synagoge heet nu \u2018de sjoeltrap\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-22pmmb-781ddb92efca35826d49603453c6a1a2 av_one_fourth 400;\">In 1812 werd op Melissantse grond, gelegen net buiten Dirksland, een Joodse begraafplaats aangelegd. In verband met het heersen van een besmettelijke ziekte op het eiland mochten er geen begrafenissen meer plaatsvinden op de Joodse begraafplaats in Goedereede. De grond van de begraafplaats werd beschikbaar gesteld door het polderbestuur. De omliggende percelen waren decennialang in gebruik als landbouwgrond. Later kwam de begraafplaats steeds verder tussen bebouwing te liggen. De begraafplaats wordt al in 1802 genoemd. De laatste begrafenis vond plaats in 1873. In 1925 werd de begraafplaats op kosten van de Joodse gemeenschap opgeknapt en toen zijn ook de betonnen palen geplaatst. In 1944 wilde de NSB-burgemeester er een plantsoentje van maken, maar dat is niet doorgegaan. Reeds eind jaren dertig was de verwachting dat deze spoedig vol zou raken en uitbreiding ter plaatse was niet mogelijk. Aangrenzend aan de nieuw aan te leggen algemene begraafplaats aan de Rottenburgseweg werd ook een deel als Joodse begraafplaats bestemd, maar er is nooit iemand begraven. Na de oorlog werd afstand van de grond gedaan. De burgerlijke gemeente van Middelharnis kreeg de beschikking over dit gedeelte in ruil voor eeuwigdurend onderhoud van de Joodse begraafplaats aan de Hoflaan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1957 namen Joodse nabestaanden het initiatief tot het plaatsen van een monument met daarop de namen van de Joodse slachtoffers. Zijn ontwerp verspreidde zich door heel Europa. Het Paul van Hessenfonds nam, op initiatief van Piet de Man, het voortouw om deze stenen ook op Goeree-Overflakkee te plaatsen. De Man woonde in de oorlog naast de Joodse familie Gazan aan de Straatdijk te Dirksland. In april 2014 werden de eerste stenen op Goeree-Overflakkee geplaatst, in december 2016 de laatste. Een tweetal stenen werd gestolen, maar later in struiken teruggevonden. Zij maken nu deel uit van de vaste tentoonstelling van het Nationaal Holocaust Museum te Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight:
