Teunis en zijn vader werden daar door Duitse militairen beschoten. Beiden kwamen op 10 mei 1940 bij Zandbeek om het leven \u2014 Teunis was nog maar 29 jaar oud.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hun lichamen werden ter plaatse, in Boxmeer, begraven. Pas weken later bereikte het droevige nieuws de familie in Herkingen, via een brief van de burgemeester van Boxmeer. Daarin betuigde hij zijn medeleven, en maakte hij ook melding van een geldkistje met een bepaald bedrag dat in zijn bezit was \u2014 kennelijk afkomstig van de &#8220;Neeltje&#8221; of van de slachtoffers zelf. Maar in de grensstreek langs de Maas, waar Boxmeer vlak tegenover Duits grondgebied ligt, voltrok de oorlog zich vanaf de eerste minuten. Burgers die daar toevallig aanwezig waren \u2014 boeren op hun land, vissers, en schippers zoals Teunis Munters en zijn vader Adrianus, die met hun vrachtschip &#8220;Neeltje&#8221; bij Zandbeek lagen \u2014 werden zonder enige waarschuwing in het strijdgewoel meegesleurd. Voor hen was er geen mobilisatie, geen linie om zich achter terug te trekken: alleen de plek waar hun schip toevallig lag, op de dag dat de oorlog voor Nederland
