Na de Japanse bezetting van Nederlands-Indi\u00eb raakte hij in krijgsgevangenschap.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Op 13 oktober 1943, 43 jaar oud, kwam hij om het leven op het eiland Flores en werd hij begraven te Maumere. Zijn weduwe, G. Wesdijk-Verkerke, ontving het bericht van zijn overlijden via het Informatiebureau van het Nederlandsche Roode Kruis en woonde na de oorlog achtereenvolgens in Middelharnis en
