Het gezin, afkomstig uit Middelharnis, liet zich in 1932 inschrijven in Sommelsdijk, aan de Koninginnelaan 45 \u2014 vandaar dat Jan Breeman in de archieven zowel met Middelharnis als met Sommelsdijk als geboorteplaats wordt genoemd. Hij was een van minstens dertien kinderen en leerde het vak van kapper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Op 20 juli 1943 werd Jan Breeman gedwongen tewerkgesteld in Duitsland, in dienst van de Organisation Todt \u2014 niet pas tijdens de grote razzia van december 1944, zoals eerder werd aangenomen, maar al anderhalf jaar eerder. Zijn laatst bekende adres was Ringstraat B 260 in Sommelsdijk. Naoorlogs onderzoek door het Bureau Bijzondere Rechtspleging leverde in 1954 geen enkele aanwijzing op dat hij zich tijdens de bezetting schuldig had gemaakt aan laakbare gedragingen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jan Breeman overleed op 2 januari 1945 in Dortmund, vermoedelijk tijdens een geallieerd bombardement op de stad. Hij werd op 15 januari 1945 begraven op de Hauptfriedhof van Dortmund, veld 12, graf 79. Later werden zijn stoffelijke resten overgebracht naar het Nederlandse Ereveld in D\u00fcsseldorf, waar hij nu rust.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zijn familie bleef zijn graf bezoeken: in 1984 en 1992 reisden naaste verwanten naar D\u00fcsseldorf en fotografeerden de grafsteen, waarop de gegevens \u2014 \u201cJ. Breeman, geb. 14-8-1919, overl. 2-1-1945\u201d \u2014 exact overeenkwamen met wat bij de familie bekend was.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><!-- close content main div
