Tijdens de oorlogsdagen van mei 1940 was hij als dienstplichtig soldaat gelegerd bij Rilland Bath.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Niet de vijand maakte een einde aan zijn jonge leven, maar een noodlottig ongeval onder zijn eigen kameraden. In de ochtend van 14 mei 1940 werd door Nederlandse militairen op Duitse vliegtuigen geschoten, onder andere met mitrailleurs. In de loop van de dag moesten deze mitrailleurs worden verplaatst; om veiligheidsredenen moesten de wapens daarvoor eerst worden ontladen. Bij de mitrailleur van Abraham Marinus werd dit echter per abuis vergeten. Toen hij met zijn strijdmakker hun mitrailleur wilde verplaatsen, vuurde het wapen plotseling af. Een kogel ketste af tegen de binnenkant van de koepel van de kazemat en trof zijn hals \u2014 een slagaderlijke bloeding met de dood tot gevolg.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Na het bericht in Sommelsdijk reisden zijn vader Joh. Stoutjesdijk en zijn oom C. Hanenberg naar Rilland Bath. De burgemeester van die plaats ontving hen en vertelde het dramatische verhaal. Na een bezoek aan het graf keerden vader en oom in diep stilzwijgen terug naar huis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Het stoffelijk overschot van Abraham Marinus werd pas in 1980 \u2014 veertig jaar later \u2014 bijgezet op het Militair Ereveld op de Grebbeberg.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><!-- close content main div --><\/div><\/div><div id='after_section_2'  class='main_color av_default_container_wrap container_wrap sidebar_left'  ><div class='container av-section-cont-open' ><div class='template-page content  av-content-small units'><div class='post-entry post-entry-type-page post-entry-1073'><div class='entry-content-wrapper clearfix'><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"parent":87,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"wo2go_datum_overlijden":"1940-05-14","wo2go_meta_description":"Abraham Stoutjesdijk (18 oktober 1919 - 14 mei 1940).
